Do Catholics
really worship Mary? They do pray to her - isn't that a sort of
violation of the First Commandment?
Catholics should never worship anyone other than our Lord, whether it be in the person of God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit, we are to worship him alone. As far as our relationship with Mary is concerned, we only honor her. We do believe that we are to follow Christ in all ways. He honored his mother as the commandment says and so we honor his mother. We also believe that while on the cross, Jesus, gave the world his mother as their own, so we honor her as our mother. Catholics further believe that when a person goes to Heaven, we are still connected through Christ and we can ask them to pray for us as we would ask a brother or sister in Christ to pray for us here on earth. Believing that Mary is is heaven, the perfect place of prayer, and knowing that Jesus honors her, we ask her intersession. The film, Mary: The Mother of God, follows Mary on her journey on location in Turkey, Israel, and Greece. It includes down-to-earth teachings on subjects like Mary's Immaculate Conception and her role as intercessor.
